Science Camp Information

Miss Mary is SUPER excited to be teaching Science Camp this summer.
If you are registered for camp, you should have received an e-mail sending you here to check out the schedule. We're going to have a great time!
If you haven't registered...it's not too late. I have a few more openings (mostly in the older classes) in all the months.
Any Questions....Call me, E-mail me, or stop by!

SESSION #1
June 9th - Science Skills - "Picking Out Popcorn"
We will introduce and study good science skills through a hands on investigation to find the best popcorn brand. We will question, observe, compare, measure, and of course TASTE!

June 16th - Physical Science - "Help! I've fallen"
This week we will study and experiment the law of gravity. We will make roller coasters and test which tracks work best. "Keep your hands and legs inside and hold on tight...we're in for a wild ride."

June 23rd - Earth Science - "Dirt made my lunch."
What is that brown stuff under our feet? We will explore dirt samples, classify and study rocks, learn how the Earth changes, and discuss current earth issues. (i.e. Oil Spill, Earthquakes, Volcanoes).

June 30 - Earth Science - "Water Fun"
During summer, kids play in the water a lot. Today we will get wet as we see what floats, sinks, and does both! We will investigate different boats and what makes them float. We will build boats and test them out!

SESSION #2
July 7th - Science Skills - "Crime Scene Investigations"
There are mysteries to be solved. This week we will encounter mysteries and use good science skills to solve them.

July 14th - Physical Science - "Not too heavy for me!"
We will investigate the physics of force today. Using pushes and pulls, collisions and loads. We will also explore the uses of simple machines. Using simple machines, we will create and test cars.

July 21st - Life Science - "It's Alive!"
Creepy, crawly things will be invited today. We will hunt and observe animals in our environment and create terrariums. We will also discuss plant life and explore their growing cycles.

July 28th - Earth Science - "It's getting HOT in here!"
Hot and Cold will be our extremes. We will explore sources of heat, keep things warm, and cook a snack using the sun! We will experiment with the sun to see what kind of bright things we can make!

SESSION #3
August 4th - Science Skills - "Where does that come from?"
A variety of strange objects will be presented. Using science skills, tests, and experiments the kids will need to figure out where it came from and prove their theory!

August 11th - Physical Science - "UP, UP, and away"
We will investigate and experiment with flying. We will examine parachutes, airplanes, helicopters, and other flying objects.

August 18th - "It's not magic - it's Science!"
Today we will practice all kinds of magic tricks that show how cool science can be! Kids will return home ready to do a science magic show of their own!

***I failed to recognize that Davis School District schools begin on August 23rd. So I will not hold the science camp on August 24th as planned. The make-up day will be on Friday August, 20th!***

FRIDAY August 20th - Rocket Science "3, 2, 1 BLAST OFF!"
As our closing session of science camp, we will send things in outer space (OK...almost!) We will make lots of different rockets and explore space travel.
